Biodiversity in Food Systems Foresight – Rethinking Sustainability for the Future

Date: April 9, 2025
Time: 12:00 – 13:30 CEST

Food systems rely on the natural ecosystems that sustain them—but are we fully considering biodiversity in our long-term strategies? While climate change, water scarcity, and pollution are often at the forefront of discussions about food system sustainability, biodiversity remains an underexplored yet critical factor. In the face of fundamental challenges to food systems, we need more radical thinking— how we as humans engage with nature and what does it mean to take a nature-centred perspective to imagine food system transformation?

In this webinar, Aniek Hebinck, Senior Researcher at the Dutch Research Institute for Transitions (DRIFT), will explore the link between biodiversity and what this means for foresight and food systems approaches. Drawing on insights from the BIONEXT programme, we will explore how transformative change towards sustainability can be driven through systems thinking, actionable pathways, and stakeholder collaboration.
